I’m having sort of a chill day today, so I’m just gonna share more of my favorite horror movie sequels! These are some of the sequels in the horror genre that I love just as much as, if not more than, the first installments. I’m including ANY installments released after the first film, not just direct sequels. I hope you enjoy and let me know your favorite horror movie sequels!!
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare
Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A demonic force has chosen Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) as its portal to the real world. Can Heather Langenkamp play the part of Nancy one last time and trap the evil trying to enter our world?
This was one of the most brilliant meta-sequels I’ve ever seen. We get all these people who worked on the original Nightmare On Elm Street playing themselves and suddenly they’re sucked into the horrifying story they helped create. We get a much more sinister Freddy with a different origin than we’re used to. It was all so well done and it was wonderful to see Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund return to play themselves AND their characters. It brought back the terror that put Freddy on the map in the first place. I’ll recommend this film to everyone I know!
Lost Boys: The Tribe
Synopsis: Chris (Tad Hilgenbrink) and Nicole (Autumn Reeser) Emerson move to the not-so-sunny Luna Bay, California, where they are targeted by a sinister coven of vampires.
I grew up watching The Lost Boys so you can imagine my excitement when I first saw the trailer for this one. I love that even after so many years later, this film still captured the overall vibe that made the original so great. It was also great seeing one of my favorite vampire hunters return! It kept the rules of the original and I loved the special effects. It’s definitely not a perfect sequel, but I don’t need it to be. I can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Hatchet III

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces, and Marybeth (Danielle Harris) learns the secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.
The third installment in a franchise needs to REALLY up the stakes, the body count, and the bloodshed, and this film nailed it on all counts! One thing I love in this one was the cast. They brought on some real horror legends like Derek Mears, Sid Haig, and Caroline Williams. The characters were very interesting and they each had their own personality that stood out. It was pure Hatchet through-and-through when it comes to the humor, special effects, and brutality.
Rings

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): A young woman finds herself on the receiving end of a terrifying curse that threatens to take her life in 7 days.
I wasn’t expecting to love this one so much when I first watched it. I was pretty disappointed in The Ring Two so I wasn’t expecting much from this one. This film absolutely NAILED the vibe of the first film! I love how they added to the lore without changing too much like some 5+ year sequels do. It kept that creepy blue/bleak tone and found a way to bring the curse to the modern age. I’ll always defend and recommend this sequel!
3 From Hell

Synopsis (provided by IMDb.com): After barely surviving prison, the demented Firefly clan go on the run, unleashing a whole new wave of murder, madness, and mayhem.
After more and more years passed after The Devil’s Rejects, I was so certain a third installment would be out of the question for everyone. I was so ecstatic when this film was announced. It was so good seeing my favorite psychotic family again! Not a soul lost their stride here. It’s as bloody and brutal as it should be. Admittedly, a lot of plot points are very similar to its predecessor, but I loved it in The Devil’s Rejects, why wouldn’t I love it here? This almost immediately became one of my go-tos!
