Dumbest Decisions In Horror Films – Part 7

I’m back with part 7 of the dumbest decisions made by horror movie characters! Whether they affected them or other people, these are some of the decisions that made a situation unchanged or so much worse. I hope you enjoy and let me know which decisions you feel should be in this series!! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

When Sue Didn’t Just Shout A Warning To Carrie – Carrie

Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) had a very difficult life. She had a crazy religious mother to deal with at home and bullies who ridiculed her at school. After the bullies pelted her with pads and tampons, they received after-school detention with the school’s P.E. teacher, Ms. Collins (Betty Buckley). When one bully, Chris (Nancy Allen), refused to participate, her prom ticket was revoked and she blamed Carrie for it. With her boyfriend, she planned to rig the votes to make Carrie prom queen and dump a bucket of pig’s blood on her for the whole school to see. One of her bullies, Sue (Amy Irving), actually regretted what they did and she asked her boyfriend to be Carrie’s date. Sue then snuck into the prom and she noticed the string, bucket, and Chris under the stage. Ms. Collins saw her and kicked her out of the gym. Sue had the time to shout as loud as she could about the bucket. She could’ve yelled out to Carrie and pointed above her. But no, she was too busy trying to tell Ms. Collins what was going on! Ms. Collins wasn’t the one with the bucket above her head, Sue!

When The Locals Freaked Out Over A Simple Question – An American Werewolf In London

Jack Goodman (Griffin Dunne) and David Kessler (David Naughton) were best friends backpacking through Europe. On their trip, they stopped at a little pub in East Proctor called The Slaughtered Lamb. The locals in the pub welcomed them with cold stares and complete silence. They eventually went back to their conversations and as one of them started telling a joke, Jack noticed a strange five-pointed star painted on the wall. When he asked them about the star, the cold stares and harsh tones returned, prompting Jack and David to leave. Once they left, they were attacked by a vicious werewolf, killing Jack and passing the curse to David. You’re telling me NO ONE has stopped by the pub and asked about that star before? They couldn’t come up with some kind of reason why it was there? They had no problem coming up with a reason when David’s doctor asked about it! If they just kept their cool, given a bulls**t answer, and didn’t panic over a very valid question, they could’ve prevented the body count that followed.

When Fran Stopped To Call The Police – The Blob (1988)

Fran Hewitt (Candy Clark) worked at a diner in the small town of Arborville, California. On a seemingly normal night, she served her last customers for the evening. In the kitchen, she noticed a clog in the sink. She was unsuccessful unclogging it, so her co-worker, George (Clayton Landey) stepped in and this amorphous blob popped out of the sink and pulled him right in, consuming him. Fran witnessed the whole thing and when the blob popped out of the sink and hit the ceiling, she was able to escape out the nearest window. She was able to escape through the back alley and what does she do? She stops at the nearest payphone to call the police! The alleyway was open, she wasn’t trapped until she went into that phonebooth. She should’ve ran to the nearest crowd and worried about calling the police later. She literally turned herself into a sitting duck.

When Kate Hesitated On Killing A Vampire – From Dusk Till Dawn

Kate Fuller (Juliette Lewis) was traveling with her father and brother when they were taken hostage by criminal brothers looking to escape to Mexico. After they got across the border, they were taken to an all-night bar in the middle of nowhere. Things started off just fine, but after a confrontation, the doors were all sealed and the owners of the bar showed their true vampiric forms. They started a bloodbath, killing almost all of the patrons. With just a few survivors left, the group killed all the vampires and they realized they had to stake all the dead bodies to prevent them from turning. Kate stood over one of the dead bodies and tried to stake it, but she hesitated. This hesitation caused a chain reaction of events. The dead body jumped at her, causing her to freak out and stake it. That distracted another survivor, Sex Machine (Tom Savini), causing him to be bitten by another vampire. Then Sex Machine bit another survivor, Frost (Fred Williamson), who threw Sex Machine out a window, letting SO many more vampires come in. Let this be a lesson: don’t hesitate when it comes to staking vampires!

When Christine Didn’t Look Inside The Envelope – Drag Me To Hell

Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) was a timid loan officer who was in line for a big promotion. Wanting to prove herself, she denied an elderly woman another extension on her loan and when the woman begged, she felt that Christine shamed her. She later attacked Christine and placed a curse on her coat button. Now Christine was cursed to be tormented by a demon for three days before being pulled into Hell for eternity. She went to a fortune teller, Rham Jas (Dileep Rao), for help and after a few failed attempts, Rham had one final plan. He put the button in an envelope and told her that she could gift it to anyone she chose. While in the car with her boyfriend, Clay (Justin Long), they almost ran into someone and Clay slammed on the brakes, sending the envelope into a pile of his papers. Christine rifled through the pile and she picked up the first envelope she found. Now, if she looked in the envelope right there, she would’ve realized she grabbed the one that had Clay’s coin. She gifted the coin to someone else and accidentally kept the curse for herself.
